Duffy first burst on to the music scene back in 2008, when she had us all singing along to the insanely catchy Mercy. Taking her own brand of blue-eyed soul from the Welsh valleys to the Hollywood Hills, the international success of debut album Rockferry bagged her three Brits the following year for best newcomer, best female and best album. Did anyone NOT have Duffys album back in 2008? asks Company editor Victoria White. "Her sound has been much copied since but, at the time, it felt exciting to hear a proper, strong female vocal!"
The retro vibe of Duffys music is echoed by her distinctive hair and make-up. With her feline-flicked black eyeliner and big, blonde bouffant hair, shes clearly been inspired by 60s sirens such as Dusty Springfield, while also setting a future trend for our most-wanted style of this years party season: the beehive (see p82 to get the look yourself!).
Smoky eyes are key to Duffys image lashings of jet-black mascara, fluttering falsies and ultra-bold brows mean she keeps the rest of her make-up more muted, with soft pink lips and peachy cheeks for a glam and glowing look. Sophie Qureshi, Companys beauty editor, says: "Duffys got that English rose, girl-next-door look down to a T. And with her Bardot-esque hair and flick of liner, shes bang on the trend at the moment!"
After releasing her second album last year, Duffys currently working on her third we cant wait to see (and steal) her comeback look!
