Sometimes city life can get the better of everyone, so when our stress levels had reached boiling point, we decided enough was enough - we needed a weekend away! Enter the Mercure Shrewsbury Albrighton Hall Hotel and Spa - an amazing 4 star Shrewsbury hotel, just 2 miles from Shrewsbury centre. It is a gorgeous 18th century manor house with a lake and 15 acres of grounds - perfect for a romantic stroll!
The hotel has 86 contemporary guest rooms, each with internet access and satellite TV, and a lovely restaurant, the Oak Room, where you can sit down to an elegant lunch or dinner, as well as the Terrace Bar, where you can relax with a cocktail. We had an amazing 3 course meal and took a nightcap into the wooden panelled drawing room.
Most importantly to us however, (all in the name of relaxation research of course), was the spa. And what a spa it is. Not only does the Mercure Shrewsbury Albrighton Hall Hotel Spa Naturel have an indoor heated pool, but there is a sauna, an ice room (not for the faint hearted!) and great treatment rooms, using products including Jessica Nailcare, Bare Escentuals make-up, St Tropez spray tanning and Decleor for face and body.
We tried out the incredible 'My Beautiful Back' treatment. The back is often a neglected area, but this complete treatment acts like a facial. A unique diagnostic massage combined with deep cleansing, purifying and balancing Essential Oils will decongest, hydrate and restore clarity leaving the skin clearer, brighter and healthier. The therapist, Robyn, was an expert, massaging all my neck and upper back tension away until I could barely remember what I was stressed about back in London.
