AW11 Hair Trends: The Ponytail

AW11 Hair Trends AW11 Hair Trends: The Ponytail Without question the biggest news in hair for AW11 is the ponytail. Hurrah – a hair trend we can achieve all on our own! Whatever your mood, there’s a ponytail for you. Keep it loose and low a la Elie Saab, sleep in it for the Henry Holland dishevelled couldn’t-care-less look or power dress with a slicked back mid-height pony as seen at Louis Vuitton. Basically, however you scrape it back you’ll be on trend – what’s not to love!

AW11 Hair Trends AW11 Hair Trends: The Ponytail To achieve the ultimate sleek ponytail, run your straightening irons through the hair - ghds of course - and scrape back to whatever height suits your face shape. Take a small section of hair from underneath the ponytail, twirl it around the elastic and pin. Finally secure with plenty of Elnett Supreme Hold hairspray!

AW11 Hair Trends: The Bun

AW11 Hair Trends AW11 Hair Trends: The Bun Buns were seen at SO many shows including YSL, Iceberg, Chanel and Dolce Gabbana. Many were slick and many were tousled but slap bang in the middle was our fav – and most achievable – the oversized bun at Chanel.

AW11 Hair Trends: The Bun

AW11 Hair Trends AW11 Hair Trends: The Bun Start by loosely parting your hair to the side. On the heavier side, wind in a roller from the ends to the root and secure - we love these Tresemme hot rollers. With the rest of the hair, pull back into a slack, low-ish pony and loosely swirl the length into an oversized bun and pin. Release the roller in the front and tousle. Don’t worry if shorter layers fall free or if a swift breeze results in a slightly flawed finish. That’s the reason we love this up do – it’s not supposed to be perfect!

AW11 Hair Trends: The Plait

AW11 Hair Trends AW11 Hair Trends: The Plait Nowadays braids are less associated with school uniforms and more associated with runways and red carpets. For AW11, plaits were seen skinny and sporadic through the hair at John Rocha and Vivienne Westwood, loose and messy at Lanvin and slightly more complex at Kenzo. Team a more unkempt braid with a sophisticated outfit to create an overall chic yet laid back look.

AW11 Hair Trends AW11 Hair Trends: The Plait If you have fine or short hair, why not clip in some temporary extensions to add length and body? Visit Xtras for your quick fix. Once clipped in, simply plait as normal making sure you don’t fuss and over preen it too much; some of the biggest names in international hair meant this season’s plait to look a little untidy and who are we to argue?!

AW11 Hair Trends: Long and Loose

AW11 Hair Trends AW11 Hair Trends: Long and Loose If you have long hair, this look couldn’t be easier to achieve – put simply, this is minimum effort and maximum impact. This do sauntered down the runways at Isabel Marant, D&G and Chloe amongst others; this is AW11\'s version of beach hair; the low maintenance yet massive summer trend.

AW11 Hair Trends: Long and Loose

AW11 Hair Trends AW11 Hair Trends: Long and Loose To add gloss and texture, use a little serum in the length and ends when your hair is wet and leave it to dry naturally - we recommend this L\'Oreal Elvive serum. If your hair dries dead straight, tong in a little wave through the length to create a little volume, we love this one from Babyliss. Last but not least, give it a good shake up to prevent it from looking too ‘done’.

AW11 Hair Trends: The Quiff

AW11 Hair Trends AW11 Hair Trends: The Quiff As many of the season’s hair trends are largely for those with mid to long locks (apart from the ponytail if it’s just about long enough to scrape back), here’s a style for those of you with shorter hair....the quiff. Seen at its very best at Dolce & Gabbana, this quiff is to be worn full of androgyny and devil may care attitude. Toned down a bit at Narciso Rodriguez and Missoni the quiff was still evident, accompanied by a ponytail (obviously) or more romantic chignon.

AW11 Hair Trends; The Quiff

AW11 Hair Trends AW11 Hair Trends; The Quiff The key to the quiff is volume! For maximum impact separate the whole front section from the forehead to the crown. Add a generous dose of Kerastase Volume Active Mousse to this section and rough dry it with a hairdryer. Take a fine tooth comb (get yours at Boots) and backcomb throughout this section. Once you are happy with the height of the quiff, smooth over the top section with a hairbrush. To finish the look, slick back the rest of the hair into a bun, ponytail or chignon.

AW11 Hair Trends: The Hat

AW11 Hair Trends AW11 Hair Trends: The Hat Get this....for AW11 there’s even a hair trend for a bad hair day! Seen at trend setting shows Gucci and Lanvin, it\'s official, the wide brim hat has landed. Whether it’s to protect from the rain or simply to cover up one of THOSE days, these hats will seamlessly carry you through autumn/winter\'s weather schizophrenia while looking just fabulous!

AW11 Hair Trends: The Hat

AW11 Hair Trends AW11 Hair Trends: The Hat For best results, keep hair down - or in a low ponytail or bun - so as not to interfere with the lines of the hat. Why not add a pop of colour to highlight your AW wardrobe? Company’s fave is this turquoise hat at ASOS
