Does your hair need some post-Summer TLC?

After a week in Ibiza my hair (as well as my body) was all partied out. I had the solution for my body – lots of sleep – but my usual hair conditioner just wasn’t doing it for my hair. So I headed to the Rush salon on Oxford Street (020 7112 1635) and begged for help from the lovely Clayde. He took one look at my frizzy mess and dragged me to the backwash.

Rush offer an extensive menu of hair treatments – mostly by Kerastase who have a selection of ‘rituals’ which can be tailored to your own hair needs (i.e whether you need nourishment, colour protection, more volume or a combination of each). 'Everyone’s hair is different,” said Clayde, “You’ve got long, coloured hair so need a deeper treatment that will really work on the ends which are older and therefore more damaged.'

At that point I had the Kerastase Chronologist cream masque applied (after it had been mixed with restorative caviar pearls no less). Apparently most of us don’t spend nearly enough time shampooing and conditioning our hair – so my hair was separated into sections and each one gently coated in the gorgeous smelling and cooling cream. It makes sense - how can we expect any active ingredients in our hair products to work when they’re on our hair for no more than a few seconds? So to give the treatment time to do its magic I was given one of the most heavenly 10 minute head massages I’ve ever had. So good was it, I practically floated back to the chair for my blow dry.

Clayde then explained that it’s not so much the sun that damages hair during summer (although that can make colour fade quicker) but oxygen. Think if it as our hair ‘rusting’ when the air gets into the hair shaft and no one wants rusty hair do they? Chronolgiste is enriched with essential fatty acids and ceramides and left my hair soft, supple and shiny – you could see the difference even when it was wet. The conditioning effects last for between 3 and 4 weeks and I can confirm even after washing my hair it feels so much better than it did post Ibiza. I’m a hair maintenance convert and will be back for another ‘treat’ next month.
