And the Oscar goes to... the bun!

With Sarah Jessica Parker, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Lopez, Rachel McAdams, Nicole Richie, Maggie Gyllenhaal and winner of Best Supporting Actress Mo Nique each rocking some version of the bun it seems a new hair trend has officially arrived.

Mark Woolley, Salon Stylist of the Year gave us his opinion on this low maintenance look ‘The messy, chic oversized bun seen on the red carpet of this year\'s Oscars was modern, sexy and slightly undone- a really fun take for a black tie do\'

Get the look

To create the look at home, follow these instructions:

Step One:  This look works well on unwashed hair as it\'s all about texture (freshly washed hair will be too silky). If you need to wash yours, apply a blow dry lotion like Shu Uemura Art of Hair Tasai Cream, £15 to get the desired texture and hold.

Step Two:  iIf needed, apply a dry shampoo for more texture then backcomb sections of hair one inch thick around the front of the face and around two inches thick at the hairs crown using a Denman Tail Comb, £6.13. Add a medium hold hairspray, we like L\'Oreal Elnett Flexible Hold Extra Strength Hairspray 75ml, £1.99.

Step Three: Gather hair as high up on the crown as you desire and secure with a loose elastic band.  If you have thicker hair, you can apply two ponytails on top of each other, around one inch apart. If your hair is very fine, add a clip in ponytail for more drama.

Step Four:  Loosely tong the hair for more movement and then pin in alternate directions around the band.

Completing the look

Finish with more spray and by ‘ruffling\' sections on the bun. Pull small bits of hair from around the face to create a softer frame.

Add hair decorations or flowers for even more wow factor.
