Loved by A-Lister's including Madonna and Kylie, the quick intensive Power Plates sessions seemed the perfect workout. But will I end the month with the perfect pop star's bottom? I certainly hope so...
I'm by no means a gym bunny. I swim and do the odd Yoga class, but I never understand when people say they LOVE' the running machine. I would much prefer to be either in bed in the mornings or enjoying a glass of wine after work. But for the New Year, along with giving up booze for a month (watch our for these blogs too), I decided to torture myself a little more and sign up for the Company January exercise challenge.
A colleague who had tried it in the run up to her wedding recommends Power Plate workouts at Good Vibes, a quick 25-minute workout on a vibrating plate. The vibrations activate your muscle contractions making any exercise you do on the plate far more effective. They say 10 minutes on the plate is as good as 60 minutes of normal working out - perfect for the busy girl (but also for the lazy exerciser like me) who still wants to workout.
I'm not that bothered about losing weight as am quite happy with my size, an average 18 to 10 (I'm 5foot4 and weigh 9 stone). But I'm really keen to tone as all the parts of my body that was once firm and are now very flabby - my bum wobbles, arms jibber, and thighs flab with any movement.
I enrol for three 8.30am classes a week for four weeks (it doesn't feel too early and I'll still be showered and at my desk by 9.15). The Good Vibes gyms only do power plating - nothing else and each class is only six people max (so not too many to humiliate yourself in front of) with very lovely trainers to encourage you and help you along the way. They have studios in four separate places around London, and continently for me there's one five minutes away from the office in Fitzrovia.
So wish me luck...
