I\'ve used this cult product for years so was thrilled when I found out Carmex had released a cherry flavoured balm. It smells great and leaves a great tingling feeling on your lips as it works its magic. This balm restored my chapped, peeling lips back to their former glory, definitely a handbag essential. 4/5

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour lip protectant, £15.66

I have a real problem with my lips. They\'re forever dry or cracked or bruised looking and I\'ve found very few lip balms that can actually do anything at all to make them look and feel better. From the moment of my first application of Elizabeth Arden\'s Eight Hour Lip Protectant, my lips were at once smooth and soft and felt better than they have felt for a long time. It was at least four hours before I felt the need to reapply. Not only that but it smells also divine, and comes with an in-built SPF 15.  5/5

You always know you\'re in safe, petrochemical and paraben-free hands with a REN product, and their perfect lip honey is no exception. I turned to this product when I thought my lips were beyond redemption - they were cracked and peeling and generally a big old mess and, no matter how much regular lip salve/balm/gloss I slathered on, they remained stubbornly in decline. REN\'s perfect lip honey saved them. It is a smooth, rich and ultra-nourishing balm which seems to almost melt right into your lips whilst leaving them with a plumped up, stick-free sheen, I loved the natural honeyed fragrance too. A Holy Grail product. 5/5

This Works Turbo Balm, £10

Not just great for a perfect pout, this is a multi purpose lip balm that can be used on any dry areas that need a little TLC. The combination of Cocoa butter, Monoi and Rose means it not only smells yummy but is also effectively nourishing. Its only downfall is its hard texture and would be easier to apply if it was a bit softer. 3.5/5

Burts Bees Beeswax lip balm, £3.49

As the worlds best-selling natural lip balm I expected high things from this beeswax salve and I wasn\'t disappointed. The balm left a great menthol tingling sensation on my lips and dried instantly so I wasn\'t left with that horrible greasiness you can taste for ages afterwards which you can get with other balms. The only downside to this salve was it didn\'t have much staying power and smelt a bit like Vicks rather than the sweet honey I was expecting from the packaging. Other than that though, a great winter soother. 3/5

The Body Shop Aloe lip treatment, £6

I loved the packaging of this lip treatment as it meant that I could apply the product directly onto my lips rather than getting half of it under my nails as is often the case with pots! Although the product wasn\'t very long-lasting it smelt very refreshing and made a real difference to my lips. It also made them quite glossy which meant I could leave my usual gloss at home in favour if this super moisturising treatment. 4/5

Dr Hauschka lip balm, £9.79

This lip balm afficionado can safely say that this wonder product from Dr Hauschka is among the best on the market. The golden yellow salve comes in a cute white glass pot, and has the texture of honey. It smells delicious - no doubt due to its organic ingredients, which include kernel oil and calendula, as well as components of natural oils such as citronellol, a derivitive of rose and geranium oils. It\'s not greasy, and stays put for hours; in short, it\'s the perfect way to protect your lips from the winter chill. 4/5

Apples and Pears Wild Rose lip balm, £9.05

This all-natural lip balm is great for sensitive, chapped lips as it\'s incredibly gentle and is packed full of nourishing ingredients like honey, plant oils and beeswax. The balm stayed put on my lips until mealtimes and smelt great. I definitely noticed a difference in my lips as well and, because it is non-greasy, it helped my lipstick stay on too. 4/5

Tisserand organic tea tree and mandarin lip butter, £4.10

I don\'t usually like scented or flavoured lip balms but this offering from Tisserand with tea tree and mandarin really changed my mind. I found the tea tree very calming yet refreshing and the texture, true to its name, buttery. I often just use vaseline but am converted to this because the balm lasts longer the vaseline and actually moisturised my lips instead of just providing a barrier from more moisture loss. All in all a great little addition to my hand bag and beauty kit! 4/5

Lancome Aqua Fusion Levres, £14.45

This is one of my all-time favourite lip balms. It packs a truly moisturising punch and you can feel it plumping and softening your lips on application, it also manages to deliver a gorgeously glossy sheen thanks to the tiny iridescent particles in the balm, though you won\'t find a hint of stickiness. Oh - and it has a very more-ish, fresh watermelon fragrance, yum! 4/5
