Paul Weller - Male solo artist
Now in the 5th decade of his career, ex 'The Jam' base guitar player, Paul Weller, still continues to be nominated for awards the world over. No stranger to the BRITs, Paul Weller won this category last year, and so far this year has received the 'Godlike Genius' Award at the NME awards , been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize for his 2010 album 'Wake up the Nation' and was presented with the 'Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement Award'. His latest album was praised by music insiders and met with outstanding reviews, getting to Number 2 in the UK Album charts . His continued success make him a strong contender for this award once again.

Plan B - Male solo artist, British Single, MasterCard British Album of the Year
2010/2011 has been a manic year for Ben Drew, AKA Plan B. From supporting Noel Gallagher at The Royal Albert Hall and playing at Radio 1's Big Weekend, to duetting with Elton John and being confirmed to perform at the 2011 Brit Awards. His second album ' The Defamation of Strickland Banks' gained rave reviews from the 'The Telegraph' who praised his 'sweet soul voice' and the 'thumping Motown groove'. Releasing five singles in total from this number one album, two of which entered the UK's Top 10, Plan B has come a long way from his 'hip-hop' debut album, and has given Motown a brilliant contemporary twist .

Robert Plant - Male solo artist
In 2010 the former charismatic Led Zepplin frontman embarked on a USA Summer tour with his new group 'Band of Joy' followed by an European tour in Autumn. 2011 has seen him kick off his North America leg of the tour and continue to promote their 2010 album, the self-titled 'Band of Joy'; which has since gone on to be featured as number 8 on Rolling Stone's list of the 30 Best Albums of 2010.

Laura Marling - British Female Solo Artist
The English singer has been causing quite a stir on the London folk scene - no doubt due to the fact that her talents have seen her not only tour with a number of well-known indie artists but also because her second album released in 2010 'I Speak Because I Can' was nominated for a Mercury Music Prize and entered the UK charts at a very respectable Number Four. Laura has since announced that we should expect her third album in 2011.

Rumer - British Female Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act
This month saw the release of Rumer's new single 'Am I Forgiven', taken from her debut album 'Seasons of my Soul' which was released in November 2010 and got to number three in the UK album charts. An excellent debut for the musician who is nominated for two Brit Awards! Requested by Elton John himself to perform alongside him at the Electric Proms, she has gained herself a steady following from big industry names. Rumer has also been confirmed to perform at the iTunes festival later on this year.

Mumford & Sons - British Breakthrough Act, British Group, MasterCard British Album of the Year
The Grammy Award Nominated English folk rock band have stormed into the charts this year with massive sucess, five star reviews and a sell out tour. 'Little Lion Man' was the first single released from their debut album 'Sigh No More', which was named as the 'Record of the Week' by XFM and 'Hottest Record in the World' by BBC Radio 1. 'Sigh No More' was released in 2009, and entered the Album Chart at number eleven, but exactly a year after its released, peaked up to number three and became Platinum, proving that their touring and promotion are taking them to higher success, the band will also be performing on the night!

The XX - British Breakthrough Act, British Group, MasterCard British Album of the Year
After kicking 2010 off by winning a Mercury prize for their debut album 'xx' , the xx embarked on a year-long worldwide tour.The mysterious three-piece band from London have become radio favourites and their music has reached a wider audience by being used as the soundtrack for many adverts, TV series and in Karl Lagerfeld's Fall/Winter 2011 fashion show. Little is known about the deep and dark band which only adds to their allure...

Biffy Clyro - British Group
2010 was the most successful year for the Scottish Rock band yet; with their latest album 'Only Revolutions' reaching number three in the UK charts and going Platinum, they were then nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and won an NME awards for best Video for their single 'The Captain'. Also in 2010 they embarked on their sell out tour and played at T in the Park, Oxegen, Reading and Leeds Music Festivals to a brilliant reception. After Matt Cardle re-recorded 'When we Collide', Biffy's version climbed back up the charts as a result as the 'Rage againt the Machine' movement. In has been announced that Biffy Clyro will be headlining this year at Wakestock.

Gorillaz - British Group
Gorillaz continued to make news last year when they released their fourth album as a free download on their website on Christmas Day, with the full album originally being recorded on Damon Albarn's iPad ! This followed on from the success of their earlier third album 'Plastic Beach' which went to number one in 4 countries, and Platinum in the UK. Their album tour 'Escape to Plastic Beach' was everything expected of the 2D animated band despite having a more electronic feel, and although it began as a UK tour, they had to expand it to a worldwide one. Despite two albums and a year of touring, Gorillaz still had time to headline at Coachella and Glastonbury !

Taio Cruz - British Single
"Dynamite" was released as the first single from his compilation album " The Rokstarr Collection" and debuted at number one, becoming Taio's second UK number one. Taio has gone on to collaborate on his single "Higher" with Kylie Minogue and Travie McCoy, and continues to write and produce for such huge stars such as fellow BRIT Nominees The Wanted and Cheryl Cole. There are also big plans for his celeb approved fashion brand " Rokstarr" in 2011, lauched by Taio Cruz in 2009 and focusing on 'affordable' items that 'Taio Cruz' fans can be. World domination next?

Bruce Springsteen - International Male Solo Artist
Last year saw the release of the extraordinary 17th album - "The Promise" from American Rocker Bruce Springsteen, and this year he shows no sign of slowing down with a UK tour confirmed!

Cee Lo Green - International Male Solo Artist, International Album
The American singer, songwriter and producer seems to be having as much solo success as he did with Gnarls Barkley, having just accounced dates for this 2011 European tour, being confirmed as a performer at the BRITS 2011 and being named as Number one of The Sunday Times' 'Songs of 2010' with his hit 'F*** You'. It has also been leaked that Cee Lo Green may be performing with Gwyneth Paltrow at this years Grammys which is favourable given that he is nominated for five Grammy Awards !

David Guetta - International Male Solo Artist
The French house music producer has set the charts on fire this past year with such fantastic collaborations as Kelly Rowland's 'Commander' and Flo Rida's 'Club Can't Handle Me'. His latest hit 'Who's That Chick' was released with fellow BRIT nominee Rihanna, and is featured on his upcoming album - the re-released 'One More Love'. The new album also showcases other hot collabs with Akon, and Kid Cudi . David Guetta's music was described by many in the industry as the 'sound of the Summer', and David promises more fantastic tunes for 2011.

Kanye West - International Male Solo Artist
MTV's "Man of the Year" has been busy in the past year! Spending half of the year working on his fifth album "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" which has since received acclaim by critics for its brilliant production and 'varied musical style', going on to perform at the MTV music awards and collaborating with Jay Z on a new album " Watch the Throne". Not content with two albums in the past year, Kanye has revealed that he will also be releasing an album this Summer.

Alicia Keys - International Female Solo Artist
This year Alicia Keys was honoured to appear on VH1's '100 Greatest Artists of all Time', as well as having one of her most successful collaborations to date - " Empire State of Mind" with Jay-Z. Alicia went on to record her own, more soulful version of the song and it became a world-wide hit. This year Alicia also got engaged and gave birth to a healthy baby boy in October.

Glee Cast - International Breakthrough Act
Ever since the first episode of Glee aired in May 2009, Glee has received a ever-growing fan base of 'Gleeks' including many top celebrities. The Glee soundtracks have been a massive success with over five million album sales, and a wide variety of related merchandise including a Wii karaoke game and a book series. The season was nominated for nineteen Emmy Awards and four Golden Globes in addition to 63 other awards worldwide. A few highlights of this year include the cast being invited to sing at the White House and Madonna revealing she may take the Glee Cast on her next tour due to the success of the 'Madonna episode'.

National - International Breakthrough Act
The Ohio rock band released their new album 'High Violet' early in 2010 and promoted this with a US tour throughout the year. 'High Violet' received widespread critical acclaim and peaked at number 5 in the UK Album charts selling over 400,000 copies worldwide. They have announced a worldwide tour for 2011 to continue their success.

Temper Trap - International Breakthrough Act
Temper Trap dominated the festivals last year playing Oxygen, Glastonbury and V Festival to name but a few. Their '300 gigs in 20 months' has definitely paid off, with their single 'Sweet Disposition' getting to number six in the UK, receiving significant radio play as well as being the soundtrack to many adverts and TV shows. The Australian group have revealed that they are planning to work on a second album once their scheduled touring comes to an end.

Arcade Fire - International Group, International Album
"The Suburbs", which was the third studio album from the Canadian indie band was released in November and debuted at number one in the UK, Irish and US charts. With outstanding reviews from NME, Time, MTV and Rolling Stone, the album has received critical success and a Grammy Nomination. The single 'Ready to Start' was used on the new series of Skins advertisements and is currently a radio favourite. The 2011 BRITs stage will be set alight with their fiery indie sound making them one to watch for 2011.

The Script - International Group
The Irish chart toppers gave us even more hits this year than last, riding on the success of their 2010 album "Science & Faith", the band have had their first sell out arena tour (selling over 150,000 tickets in just one day). Their single " For the First Time" debuted at number one in Ireland and four in the UK giving them their first number one hit. With their album getting to number 3 in the US Billboard charts it looks like the boys have also broken America, proving that this is only the beginning.

Vampire Weekend - International Group
Vampire Weekend was the name on everyone lips this Summer following the release of their newest album 'Contra'. Having released three singles from the album, the band claim they are taking their time before producing a follow-up third album. 'Contra' received a Grammy nomination and after a year of playing at the worlds biggest festival such as Glastonbury and Benicassim, has become a radio playlist favourite. Seems that they have come a long way from being the band that booked their first gig 'even before their first rehearsal'.
