I've just been down to check out hotly-tipped new music act Sliimy... (pronounced Sleemy')- he's French don't you know. If you haven't heard of him yet, you soon will do- his debut single Wake Up is out next month but he's already been supporting Katy Perry and got Lady Gaga in his fan club. Plus he's the man who was Perez Hilton's first signing in the US on his Perezcious Music label. Not bad hey?
So down we headed to Kettners in Soho where we were treated to mini-burgers (that weren't so mini- we were liking him already) mini fish and chips and some live songs from the man himself.
When you see him with his crazy curly hair (which incidentally got a bit stuck in the mic stand), balloons and quirky fashion tastes, you can see why he's been dubbed the French Mika, but that's where the comparisons end. His songs are deeper and rawer than our friend Mika, and a lot more tortured. It's not your classic cheesy pop, it's pretty soulful stuff and often pretty dark with his poetic lyrics and tormented lullabies. He doesn't look completely comfortable on stage yet but we'll give him time. And we absolutely loved hearing his huge youtube hit version of Britney's Womaniser live.
After five songs, we left with goody bags of bow-ties and cakes. It's definitely not as instantly infectious as Mika, but we think it might be a grower, so watch this space.
