The head of the entertainment department for America's biggest network Fox, Peter Rice, complimented the 27-year-old Promise This singer for her judging on the UK ITV1 show, telling Access Hollywood: "If Cheryl was to be on the show, I think shes proved that shes a terrific judge."
There had been concerns that the US audience may not understand the Girls Aloud star's regional accent, which in turn could compromise her role as a judge alongside music mogul Simon Cowell.
Rice added that he'd been having regular discussions with 51-year-old Cowell and added that the head judge was still looking for other candidates to judge on the show.
He continued: "Theres great speculation. I think Simon is still meeting and trying to find the right mixture ...Itll be four judges as it is in England - its two men, two women one of which will be Simon. Simons going to come to us and hes going to say, This is who I would like the judges to be, and well have a conversation about it."
The Fox network will have the final say on who will star on the judging panel, and insisted the show would be a huge hit the US - so if Cheryl does get the go ahead, she could conquer the States.
Rice added: "I think its an amazing TV show...Its just so well produced, so fun, so wildly entertaining I think if they discover the next Susan Boyle next year on X Factor - thats not something that will happen on Idol. If they discover, Stevie Wonder or Michael Jackson or some 10-year-old phenomenon, thats not something youre gonna see on Idol.
"The other thing which I find most different about it is the way in which the judges own the groups, or own their categories, really differentiates the show. Im really excited to bring the show here."
Cheryl's so got the gig...
