The tit tape challenge

Rachel McAdams at the Time Traveller's Wife premiere

So, in theory, there's a lot to like about Rachel McAdam's choice of frock for the New York premiere of the Time Traveller's Wife (please, please be good!)

Shoulder pads, very on trend and she wears them well, the draping and ruching is delicately done (mostly) and really very pretty. Even the pure white, slinky fabric - so unforgiving, so often a style no-no - sits well on her petite frame and doesn't wash out her complexion. In fact, the make-up is a triumph - sultry, smouldering eyes and radiant, pearly skin, and I applaud the fact that Rachel didn't feel the need to bathe in creosote to wear this colour either (so many of you celebs, take note). The hair is a tad on the WI side but that's not really what concerns me here.  It is that there appears to be a major portion of the dress missing. Almost like the seamstress was working furiously through the night to get this ready for the premiere, mug of coffee at the ready, coffee gets spilt on dress (naturally), seamstress decides ‘what the hell' and takes a pair of scissors to the dress with a Maverick gleam in her eyes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a plunging neckline if the rest of the dress is on the demure side as is Rachel's, but it's really all in the implementation. Grazing the navel generally veers on the side of Michelle Heaton and this is closely tied up with the all-important width-of-plunge issue, narrow is good, Grand Canyon-style that challenges the limits of tit tape is not.

But what is distressing me most is that I can't shake the feeling that Rachel's head looks like it's on backwards. What with the shoulder pads, the missing portion of the dress and the total lack of cleavage that you might expect to be in it's place - you could easily be forgiven for thinking that from the neck down is a back-view and somehow Rachel has inherited a few owl genes and mastered the art of turning her head 180.

And that, quite frankly, is freaking me out...
