Acrtics set for NME success
The Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian lead NME Award nominee list
Forget about Brits or Grammys - the real rock 'n' roll drama goes down at the NME Awards - and it looks set to be a tense night next month...
The Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian have landed six nominations apiece for the rock 'n' roll ceremony, with the two groups going head to head for prizes in the Best British Band and Best Live Band categories, while the Arctic Monkeys' Cornerstone and Humbug will compete for Best Video and Best Album awards against Kasabian's Fire and West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum respectively.
Muse are also expected to have a big night when the awards are handed out in London next month - they are nominated in four categories: Best Band, Best Album (for The Resistance), Best Album Artwork and Best Live Event.
Meanwhile, the now defunct Oasis are up for three honours - Best British Band, Best Video for Falling Down and Best Live Event - and the Gallagher brothers are each shortlisted for individual categories - Noel Gallagher is up for both Hero and Villain of the Year, while Liam is also a contender for the Villain award as well as Best Dressed and Worst Dressed celebrity. Just don't expect them both to be picking up prizes in person!
Over to at least one lady, Lady GaGa is pitted against The Strokes' frontman Julian Casablancas and British rapper Dizzee Rascal for Best Solo Artist, while Kings of Leon, Green Day and Vampire Weekend will fight it out with Paramore and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for Best International Band.
The honours will be dished out on 24 February, so watch this space.
