Anne Hathaway is having a brilliant New Year so far; the actress has secured her dream of guest starring in Glee and now she's landed the coveted role of Catwoman in in the third instalment of director Christopher Nolan's Batman series.
Anne will play Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises, in which Christian Bale is set to reprise his role as the superhero.
It's also been confirmed that Bafta Rising Star nominee Tom Hardy, who Nolan directed in last summer's blockbuster Inception, will play villain Bane.
In a statement from Warner Brothers, Nolan said: "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story."
The Love & Other Drugs actress is said to have beaten off competition from the likes of Blake Lively, Keira Knightley, Natalie Portman and Naomi Watts.
Previously, Michelle Pfeiffer played the part in Batman Returns in 1992, and then Halle Berry donned the catsuit in Catwoman back in 2004.
And about working with British hunk Hardy, Nolan said: "I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman's most formidable enemies."
