It's with a heavy heart that we bring you the following shocking news; Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz are filing for divorce after three years of marriage.
The former couple's rep has announced the following statement: "After careful consideration we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our number one priority. We ask that everyone honor our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives."
The pair cited "irreconcilable differences", with the 26-year-old actress and singer seeking joint legal and primary physical custody of Bronx as well as spousal and child support.
Ashlee and 31-year-old Fallout Boy singer Wentz began dating in May 2006, before marrying in 2008 when she was three months pregnant with Bronx.
An insider has since told UsMagazine.com: "They've been unhappy. They're living two separate lives."
In June 2006, it was rumoured that the pair were experiencing difficulties adjusting to their new roles of both parent and spouse, which caused a major rift between them.
Other sources had claimed that they fought constantly and that Ashlee was "considering leaving Wentz" as a result.
The timing could be better, as Ashlee's older sister 30-year-old Jessica recently announced she was engaged to former NFL player Eric Johnson, after he proposed last November.
