In an interview given just before the latest Ashley Cole sex text messages allegations, Cheryl Cole had vowed that she'd never give up on her marriage to the disgraced footballer.
The 26-year-old singer, who is set to perform at the Brits tomorrow but has banned the Chelsea star from accompanying her, told Hello! magazine several weeks ago: "You dont have to just give up when two people who love each other have a few problems. Anyone who throws in the towel ends up achieving nothing."
When asked about Ashley's alleged dalliance with hairdresser Aimee Walton, the singer replied curtly: "Ive never defended him and I dont want to go into this subject. But my message is still the same. If its worth fighting for then fight. And in the case of me and my husband, its worth it. We love each other. Of course, sometimes when things arent going very well, youve got to work on your relationship. Sometimes one of you makes a mistake, sometimes the other."
On the trials of her marriage, she added: "Well, lets not kid ourselves. Were not at primary school any more. Lets just say that during the first 6 to 12 months everything is always great. Youre totally in love and everything works by itself. Then, at some point, everyday life takes over again. I think thats normal."
She also admitted that her hit single 'Fight For This Love' was about her marriage to Ashley.
Meanwhile, fellow Girls Aloud members and Cheryl's mother have reportedly begged Chezza to leave 29-year-old Ashley.
Feisty Sarah Harding, 28, is said to be "furious" while Nadine Coyle, 24, Kimberley Walsh, 28 and Nicola Roberts, 24, are claiming that Ashley "doesn't deserve" the lovely Cheryl.
A friend reportedly close to the group told The Sun: "As far as they're concerned Ashley is holding Cheryl back. He doesn't deserve her and she doesn't deserve any of this worry. Sarah is particularly angry, furious in fact, but all the girls are upset and see each other as sisters. They will fight tooth and claw to protect Cheryl."
The source added: "Cheryl's mum is also livid. She has said she'll support whatever decision Cheryl makes, but privately believes she deserves better."
We have to admit, we're starting to agree with Cheryl's mum too...
