While we all languish in the recession doldrums with the threat of redundancy and not having enough money for our weekly trip to Topshop hanging over our heads, it's refreshing to see that there are still people in the world living the high life.
Like Johnny Depp, who has been talking about his island in the Bahamas, on which it has been reported that he has named one of the beaches in memory of late actor Heath Ledger, whose final role in 'The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus' Depp helped to finish.
Speaking about the island, which he calls his "decompression", he said: "It's my way of trying to return to normalcy. Escapism is survival to me. I don't think Id ever seen any place so pure and beautiful. You can feel your pulse rate drop about 20 beats. It's instant freedom. And that rare beast - simplicity - can be had.
"And a little morsel of anonymity. Whenever I was getting frustrated about being 'novelty boy' and making movies, I told myself, 'Calm down. I can come down here and disappear.' I spent the Christmas season here with Vanessa and the kids. You can feed hot dogs to the nurse sharks in the Exumas - but it's best to not swim when doing it."
And Johnny knows how fortunate he is...
"Money doesn't buy you happiness," he said. But it buys you a big enough yacht to sail right up to it."
Good point!
