US actress Katherine Heigl has explained why she decided to adopt with husband Josh Kelly, admitting that the subject of adoption has been integral to her life, while not ruling out having biological children at some point in the future.
The 30-year old star of 'Knocked up' and '27 dresses' also gushed to US magazine Redbook about what a "great dad" her hubby has turned out to be.
She said: "He's such a guy. I adore him, I can't imagine being with another man, but he can be very self-absorbed."
She continued: "Not in an egomaniacal way, just kind of in his own head and unfocused on anything other than his own stuff. So I was really surprised by how on top of it and how connected he is."
On the topic of biological children. she continued: "We still talk about having biological children as well. I'm not ruling anything out. But adoption has been a part of my life and a part of my family, so it was how I wanted to start."
Katherine's older sister is adopted form South Korea, Naleigh's native country, and was named after Katherine's mother Nancy and her sister Margaret Leigh.
She had told Us Weekly last year: “It's been a big part of my life and my family. My sister is Korean and my parents adopted her back in the 70s and so I just always knew that this is something I wanted to do. I just wanted to make sure that I was marrying a guy who understands that this was going to have to happen. Not everybody is down with that, not everybody thinks that.”
Originally, Naleigh's adoption came through during the filming of 'Life As We Know It' and Heigl freely admits the entire episode happened very quickly.
She had recently told Us Weekly: "I had just become a mom....I was all over the place. I was really trying too hard. I was completely bonkers.
"If I spread myself too thin. I'm not a good actor, I'm not a good mother, and I'm just really high-strung-—and everybody hates me."
