Keira's bit for charity
Keira Knightley stars in contorversial advert to raise awareness for domestic violence
Good on actress Keira Knightley, who has used her status to raise awareness for domestic abuse by starring in a controversial advert backed by charity Women's Aid. The star appears in the advert as a victim of domestic violence at the hands of her partner, who accuses her of having an affair with a co-star. Keira is seen being kicked to the ground in the chilling ad, which she agreed to star in for free. Director Joe Wright, who worked with Keira in Atonement and Pride & Prejudice also took part free in charge, as the issue is something they both believe should be brought to the public's attention. The actress said:“I wanted to take part in this advert for Women's Aid because while domestic violence exists in every section of society, we rarely hear about it. “Domestic violence affects one in four women at some point in their lifetime and kills two women every week.”
An extended version of the advert will be shown in cinemas nationwide as of next week, although the agency behind the campaign are keen for it to also be aired on television.
