Lindsay Lohan is set to have to complete four months in prison and 480 hours of community service after she left a shop wearing a necklace she hadn't paid for, violating the probation of a drink-driving offence from 2007.
After the ruling on Friday, a friend of hers told People magazine:
"Obviously, she is upset about [being sentenced to four months in jail].
"She is angry because she has been working so hard on turning her life around. She didn't do what they said she did. She didn't steal that necklace.
"She is ready to do her time. She wants to go to A.A. and N.A. and to serve her [more than] 400 hours [of community service]. She has already been doing lots of charity work."
At the hearing Judge Stephanie Sautner pondered how believable it was that she'd forgotten she had been wearing the necklace, saying:
"If it was an accident she had the numbers to call them back to return it."
June 3rd is the trial start date for Lindsay's necklace theft case, but the incident was enough to put her in violation of her probation and she was in jail for a few hours on Friday before posting bail.
Lindsay was freed pending her appeal of the ruling, though legal experts don't believe she has much chance of the appeal succeeding.
We don't think it was a very Good Friday for Lindsay...
