Now the following is a sentence we could never imagine coming from Madonna's mouth, but the Queen of Pop has just confessed that she wishes her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes Leon would take her advice and "dress more conservatively". And of course, the 51-year-old mother-of-four with a penchant for wearing leotards and little else, is well aware of the irony.
In an interview with Us Weekly, the singer speaks enthusiastically about Lourdes and their new teen clothing line, Material Girl, set to hit US department store Macy's in August.
Madonna joked about her daughter's distinctive style, saying: "If anything, I wish she'd dress more conservatively. How's that for irony?"
An on their first fashion collaboration together, she explained: "I did a line for H&M, which I enjoyed, but it was a lot of work. I thought, I don't want to give up the rest of my careers, so I'm not going to do my own line again. But I have a 13-year-old with tireless energy who wanted to do this. Ive been involved in business meetings, but Lola's really doing the work. I just sit in the corner on my BlackBerry!"
Madge said of Lourdes' eclectic style, that she may have inherited from her mum, which will be reflected in their clothing range: "It's inspired by kids she sees in hip-hop and ballet classes, European influences, bands she listens to. You could say it's in the DNA but I could never tell her how to dress!
"She also comes to my photo and video shoots, pulls outfits together and gives her input to a lot of my fashion-designer friends. Whether its Marc Jacobs or Stella McCartney, they always ask her what she thinks."
Sometimes we wish Madonna was our mum...
