According to sources across the pond, Mischa Barton has been placed under involuntary psychiatric hold in hospital by the LA Police Department. The troubled 23-year-old actress called police to her Hollywood home on Wednesday afternoon after requiring assistance for an unspecified "medical issue".
A police spokesperson confirmed: "We responded to her home last night on a medical issue. We assisted with it. She was removed from her home."
And now a source from the US has claimed that the star was being held under Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code, the very same code that saw Britney Spears hospitalised twice in 2008.
The section means that authorities can hold a person against their will for up 72 hours if it's believed that the individual could be a danger to themselves or others, are gravely disabled or suffer from a mental illness.
Barton missed the New York premiere of her new film, 'The Homecoming', with producer Austin Stark commenting: "I wish her all the best. First and foremost, we want her to get healthy again. It's obvious we'd like her to support the movie and be here, but we hope she gets better."
Barton's spokesperson has since said: "Police were involved due to Ms. Barton's celebrity status; to ensure her safe transfer to medical treatment for which she remains hospitalised as per the recommendation of her doctor."
Get well soon, Mischa.
