Amelle, Heidi and Jade are Sugababes no longer. Nope, they've not split up, original band member Mutya Buena has won the legal battle to the rights of the name.
Considering the current line-up doesn't have any founding members (Siobhan Donaghy left in 2001, Mutya in 2005 and Keisha Buchanan in 2009,) it's not surprising the battle was launched, although it does mark a landmark case.
In a post on her Facebook.com page, Mutya wrote:
"I won the official name of the Sugababes now!!! I deserve this! I’m over the moon!"
Mutya is also down as the owner of the name Sugababes on the official EU trademark website.
Does this mean Mutya might reform the original line-up? Fingers crossed. We'll be playing Overload in the meantime.
