We chat to Chipmunk!

We chatted with the ‘Oopsy Daisy’ rapper to find out his plans for the festival season, playing Sainsbury’s Super Saturday and his favourite Ibiza hot-spot...

Hi Chipmunk, are you excited about any festivals this year?

Yeah there are a lot of festivals this year, I can’t wait. I am playing Glastonbury again this year and I’m looking forward to seeing Beyoncé. I will be at the very front of the stage!

Are there any festivals you are particularly excited about?

V Festival, but I’m not really a big festival goer. I’ve never been to a festival unless I’m performing and I’ve never camped, I’m not really a camping type of dude. I don’t stay in B&B’s or caravans either I just go straight in and straight out.

Have you ever rocked up to a festival in fancy dress?

Nope, nope, nope. If it’s muddy I will definitely be wearing my green wellies though.

Do you have a particularly memorable festival moment?

My key moment at a festival was probably when I had an accident on stage at Glastonbury. I had a hernia but I didn’t know I had one until it kicked in on stage. I still carried on with the show but I had to explain to the crowd, ‘Yo, I’m in so much pain’ and then they had to carry me off stage. Also the festival where I did my last performance before my second album, that was great.

Will you be jetting off to Ibiza this summer too?

I am definitely going to Ibiza this summer. I love going and I try to go out there every year. My favourite club out there is probably Eden because there’s good music and good people – you can’t beat that. I pretty much tend to stop in the same hotel every time I go, but I can’t remember the name of the hotel!

So you like to travel to exotic places then?

Yeah, I definitely like travelling the world. I like going to America, especially the West Coast and L.A. I could definitely see myself living there because I’m big on sunshine, it makes me feel happy.

What’s the best holiday you’ve ever been on?

I went to Jamaica two years ago and that is pretty memorable. There was a few of us and we went to Montego Bay.

What was it that you liked about it?

What didn’t I like! You know: Fun, sun, music, the people and good food.

So what’s next for Chipmunk?

I am performing at Sainsbury’s Big Saturday on the 10th September at Clapham Common (an event that brings together some of Britain’s top Paralympic athletes with world class music acts). It should be wicked man, the mixture of food and music is always good – you can’t go wrong with that combination.

Sainsbury’s Super Saturday – a family-friendly event taking place on Clapham Common on the 10th September in support of the Paralympic Games 2012. Artists performing include Taio Cruz, The Saturdays and Chipmunk. Tickets go on sale on the 20th May and all profits go to the Paralympic Legacy Fund.
