Diane Kruger doesn't believe in marriage

We hope Diane Kruger's long-term beau Joshua Jackson wasn't planning on proposing any time soon... The German-born actress has admitted that although she's not pessimistic, she's not a great believer in marriage, especially after her divorce from French actor Guillaume Canet five years ago.

The 34-year-old Inglourious Basterds star married Canet, know engaged to Academy Award-winning French actress and Inception star Marion Cotillard, and with whom he's expecting his first child, in 2001 before divorcing in 2006.

Speaking to Glamour magazine, Diane said: "I was married very young. We were together seven years." And on her relationship with Canet, she continued: "Without sounding pessimistic, I learned that I don't believe in marriage. I believe in a commitment that you make in your heart. There's no paper that will make you stay. A guy friend of mine said, and it made a lot of sense, that people should get married at the end of the road, not the beginning."

The star also admits that her difficult childhood with an alcoholic father, which led to her leaving her family home with her mother and brother aged 13, has also made her rethink the values of marriage, adding: "I also made a lot of boys pay for my father's behaviour."

Kruger has dated former Dawson's Creek star Jackson for four years.
