Us Brits are a stylish lot (even if we do say so ourselves) and nowhere is this demonstrated more than in the music industry. The British music scene has created an abundance of style and beauty icons over the years - almost as many as the hits themselves! This is why we decided it was only fitting to team up with Rimmel London and countdown to the BRIT Awards 2012 with our own chart of the biggest female BRIT icons, as voted for by our core judging panel.
Our editor, Victoria White, singer Olly Murs , Radio 1Xtra presenter Gemma Cairney, UK Marketing Manager at Rimmel London Shannon Watts and Company’s very own beauty editor, Sophie Qureshi made up the panel who shortlisted a whole host of BRIT icons - and then battled their corner for the singers they thought deserved that elusive place in our top ten.
It was a really tough process to edit down the list – especially when there are so many iconic looks rocked by singers over the years. Among those who didn’t quite make the cut were VV Brown, Marianne Faithful, Sophie Ellis Bextor and Paloma Faith – so you can see the high standard our panel were faced with!
Every month from now until February, Company Magazine will reveal our top ten finalists, who we believe changed the face of music forever - and accompany this with a page by Rimmel London showing you how to recreate the enviable style of our top ten BRIT icons.
We start the countdown in this month’s October issue with the uber-stylish Victoria Beckham. Her part in the Spice Girls helped change the direction of British pop music forever, and she has now reinvented herself as a credible style icon.
