James McAvoy
Well, James McAcoy has certainly got star quality and a healthy dose of hotness. We can\'t take our eyes off any screen he graces. He\'s been a charismatic car thief, a disabled dynamo, a gentle faun, Jane Austen\'s love interest, and now an ordinary guy who unlocks his dormant super powers to become an action hero with a vengeance in this summer\'s Wanted.
So what\'s his story? Read on to find out about his stint at a bakery, his love for music, his relationship with his wife (and why he doesn\'t talk about it!), and his wacky party tricks (fire-breathing, anyone?) From a Glasweigan housing estate to BAFTA\'s Rising Star, without further ado... Mr. James McAvoy.

James McAvoy Oscars
James Andrew McAvoy was born on 21 April, 1979 in Glasgow, Scotland. Growing up, he wanted either to become a priest or to join the Navy but a visiting speaker at James\'s school when he was sixteen changed all that.
Scottish actor David Haymen came to address the school but was heckled by James\'s classmates for being "poofy". After the speech, James went to apologise to the actor on behalf of his peers and randomly offered to come and make tea on Haymen\'s next film set. A few months later, Haymen rang and asked James to audition for a part in \'The Near Room\'. He landed the role and a star was born!

James\'s role in Haymen\'s The Near Room led to various small television parts over the next few years and later, to his big break. The role of Steve on TV\'s Shameless cemented James as a proper, recognisable actor in Britain.

James McAvoy in Children of Dune
Not comfortable being flung into an acting career without any training, James enrolled at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
He paid for his lessons with the money he made filling cakes in a supermarket. "For two years, I ran straight from the early shift at Sainbury\'s bakeries to the 8am warm-up."

James McAvoy in Wanted
May we just say...
Phwooaarrrr! In a foray away from the softer, sweeter characters we\'ve seen him play, James appears this summer in Wanted. Based on a comic book story, Wanted is an action-packed thriller co-starring Hollywood heavy-hitters Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman.
Playing an action star is definitely a first for him, but with that hard new body we just fancy him even more. And it seems he\'s, erm, more than equipped for the role, he\'s skilled in fencing, gymnastics, and even fire-eating! "Some guy taught me [how to breathe fire] at T in the Park a few years ago." Hot lips indeed.

We may all have fallen in love with James when we saw him in Atonement, but he fell in love on the set of Shameless, where he met actress Anne-Marie Duff.
They married in October, 2006 and have made a pact not to speak about their relationship with the press. "I\'m very defensive and protective of [my relationship] because you only get one life," he says.

James McAvoy and Christina Ricci
Who wouldn\'t adore James McAvoy in Penelope, the modern romantic fairy tale about a disfigured young woman played by Christina Ricci? James has often spoken of an admiration for fragile characters like Andrew McCarthy\'s in St. Elmo\'s Fire. "He was really vulnerable, really open." James said of the character.
James is a big fan of 80\'s teen fare, listing Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club, and The Goonies as some of his all-time favourite films.

James McAvoy Lion Witch and Wardrobe
James learned to play the flute for the role of Mr. Tumnus the faun in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. We suspect this was a fairly easy task for him, as he\'d had a musical ear for years. Proficient on guitar, bass, and drums, James spent some of his pre-acting teenage years in a band called Shooglenifty. Oh how we\'d have loved to have been in the audience at one of those gigs!

James McAvoy Becoming Jane
James\'s work on the set of Becoming Jane garnered him one of the most wonderful compliments an actor can get. Anne Hathaway, who plays Jane Austen said, "James McAvoy has got future legend stamped all over him. I\'ll be the first to go on record; he\'s probably the most talented young actor alive." We second that, Anne!

James McAvoy in the Last King of Scotland
The Last King of Scotland was an amazing role for James. His performance in this film led to his winning two prestigous awards: the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2006 and the Cannes Film Festival Male Revelation Award in 2007.
Next up for James are two very different films. The Last Station is a historical drama about Leo Tolstoy\'s struggle with balancing fame and wealth with a minimalist lifestyle. And then comes Perrier\'s Bounty, which is a comedy-thriller about the Irish mafia. Bring it on!
