Newly-wed Carey Mulligan donned a metallic gold paillette Prada fishscale-style halterneck dress for the event - it certainly makes an impact but our fash team aren't totally convinced: "Carey's dress is an amazing piece - but the satin shoes age her and don't compliment the edginess of the design - she reminds us a bit of a fembot!"

Met Ball Dresses: Beyonce
Beyonce shows new mums what they have to compete with in this amazing sheer sequin Givenchy Haute Couture gown, complete with purple feathered dip dye train. Our fash team said: "Bey makes the most of her incredible hourglass figure and goes for bold in this sheer dress - and the long sleeves somehow keep it classy."

Scarlett Johansson sticks to her fave designers, Dolce & Gabbana, and we can see why. "Scarlett looks amazing in this embellished and tulle number, and we love that she's left her hair down and slightly messy, adding sexiness to what would otherwise be a slightly too polished look."

Twilight star Kristen Stewart goes for an edgier look in Balenciaga by Nicholas Ghesquiere. Bucking the trend for long gowns and swept back chignons, Kristen uses colour blocking and statement heels to make her mark on the red carpet. Our fash team say: "It's great to see Kristen dressing her age - no fussy maxis for her, and we love her fresh make up. However the length could have been a little shorter and the heels could have been peep-toe to make her legs appear longer."

January Jones certainly stood out in this bright yellow Versace number - but we're not sure it's for the right reasons... Our fashion team's verdict? "Yellow and black is a tricky colour combo, and there is everything going on here - strapless, peplum, fishtail skirt - it's just too much. And the jewellery is a bit of a mismatch...eek!"

Jessica Alba plays it a little bit safe in this metallic one shouldered Michael Kors gown. Our fashion team said: "There's no denying Jessica is gorgeous, and her dress is a great shape for her, but the overall effect is just a little too bronze - the dress, the hair and the skin. It just lacks a little bit of oomph."

Wowza Gwyneth - this Prada dress leaves little to the imagination! Our fashion team said "She's showing a lot of flesh, her back, legs (and a little of her chest!) is exposed, but if we had her figure, we'd probably show it off too. We do have a slight issue with her heels though - a little bit TOWIE for the normally classy Gwyneth."

Rihanna was actually a little bit demure in this Tom Ford dress - although the crocodile effect ramped it up a few notches! "Figure skimming, sexy and chic - but our Ri Ri isn't showing much of her personality - we'd have liked her to have a bold colour pop lip in red or pink, and some shoes which added interest."

Kirsten Dunst can often be a fashion maverick, and at the Met Ball she chose to shun the glam dress and instead opted for this burnt orange two piece by her fave label, Rodarte. Our fashion team aren't overly impressed: "If you have the chance to go the the Met Ball, you should dress for it! This ensemble would look more at home in a dowdy office - such a shame as Kirsten often gets it so right. Even she doesn't look to happy to be wearing it!"

Emma Stone has got it spot on - her Lanvin dress is fun and youthful and we love the embellishment and detail. "We love the mix of red dress with her gorgeous red hair - the only thing we would have changed would be to swap the black pump heels for something cooler, and have a bit more fun with accessories - perhaps some amazing statement earrings would have completed the look."
