Hailee Steinfeld Talks Fashion!

Our cover star Hailee chats fashion with Katie Mulloy...

You met the incredible Karl Lagerfeld in Paris. How was that?

Oh my god, so cool. He was so, so sweet. It was one of those momentswhere there were a lot of people around him and it was backstage. I was like, ‘I really want to meet him but if it’s not the right time, it’s okay,’ and I was going back and forth with myself; ‘Am I ready [to meet him]? I don’t think I’m ready’. Then it just happened and he was so sweet and so softly spoken and just really cool. It was a great moment.

What’s been your favourite Red Carpet ensemble?

I have a few. My Oscar dress by Marchesa [in 2011] – that was such a princess moment. The whole process of creating that dress resulted in one of the most incredible moments of my life.

What about Met Ball outfits?

I have to say the dress that I wore to the Met Ball this last year – Donna Karan Atelier – was so much fun. Watching that dress come together was a really cool experience. It’s such a nerve-wracking experience. I have no idea how designers and stylists do it. It’s just crazy. The day of the Met Ball we see the dress for the first time and they’re sewing you into it as you walk out the door.

And when you’re not on the red carpet – what’s your personal style?

I really love to just play around. I don’t really have a specific style. It depends on the day for me and that’s what I so love about fashion because it’s really a way of expressing yourself or how you feel on that particular day or in that moment.

Finally what are you wearing today?

I’m still in my pyjamas right now and I have no idea what I’m going to wear today. I never figure it out until I’ve changed my outfit 20 times.

Wow! good luck with getting dressed Hailee (we don't think you'll need it)!
