Being Human re-starts this Sunday on BBC Three. We chatted to Sinead Keenan, who plays the newest member of the gang Nina, about the gossip from the new series...
Happy New Year. Did you enjoy the holidays?
It was wonderful - I was back in Ireland, where I'm from, with all my family. I miss home a lot and I'm very close to my family. My sister is at drama school in London and my brother is an actor too so it's a bit of a family job. It's nice to know if I've had a bad audition I can call them up and they'll understand.
Did you always want to be an actress?
As a child I wanted to be a lawyer because I loved this US TV programme called Matlock that stared a male lawyer. But as I got older I realised that actually I just wanted to play the part of the lawyer, not be one.
What was your big break into acting?
When I was in my early 20s I was cast as the girlfriend of the lovely Killian Murphy in a film called Sunburn. It actually sounds more glamorous than it was - I played his 16-year-old pregnant girlfriend who stayed in Dublin while he went off to America to discover himself.
What type of roles do you like to play?
I seemed to always get cast as fairly strong and feisty characters - I rarely play the obedient wallflower. I'm actually not that feisty in really life but think acting has given me the opportunity to bring that side of me out!
So you're not like your character Nina in Being Human?
I think I'm a lot warmer person than Nina. Because of her past (Nina's had quite a tough life) she's built up this wall and is now a bit of a hard nut to crack, though she does have a soft centre underneath, but on the outside she appears very tough and abrasive that you have to work to get past.
Are you excited about new series?
I haven't seen it myself yet, so can't wait to watch them. Where we left off at the end of the last series George (who plays a ware wolf) scratched Nina just as he was transforming. The second series is set 27 days later on the next full moon and she doesn't know if she will turn - so it's very exciting!
How was the filming of the second series?
The shoot ran from August till December and we were working 11-day fortnights with 12-hour days, so it was all a bit exhausting. But as we film in Bristol the cast were given flats next door to each other, so when we weren't working we'd hang out and have a lot of fun.
You're lucky enough to star along side not one but two very hot men. Who do you fancy more Russell or Aiden?
There is no denying that Aiden Turner is a gorgeous young man. But Russell is gorgeous too, plus he's completely my social secretary. Russell has loads of celeb friends so they sort us out with tickets to the best shows- we all went to see Will Young recently!
Do you get recognised?
It's only really if the four of us go out together, people seem to think we've walked straight out of the telly.
So what is next for you for 2010?
The filming for the third series of Being Human starts in May. But I'd love to fit in a little theatre job in-between as I haven't been on stage in two years and I'd love to get back into it - I really like the immediate response you get from the audience!
So no film plans yet?
I've got immediate plans for Hollywood but if Spielberg rang tomorrow and said "Sinead I've got the perfect role for you", I might have to pack a bag and go running!
Thanks Sinead! We can't wait to see what happens in the full moon...
The second series of Being Human starts on Sunday Jan 10th on BBC Three
