Located in Digbeth (aka the alternative club area of Birmingham), Rainbow is a kind of bar/club fusion. It transforms from a small discreet pub most days into the ultimate club experience on specially hosted nights like Naked Lunch and Loose Joints. Although it can get quite studenty, it's still a cool place to go for older scenesters.
Why is it hot?
Basically because it's the kind of place you could imagine Agness Deyn, model of the moment, going for a good night out if she happened to live in Birmingham. It's a place which allows you to be completely yourself or someone else entirely. Where people will judge you on what you wear but also allows you not to care what they think.
What's the music like?
A cool blend of electro remixes and Drum and Bass. A lot of new DJing talent plays there too, so you could end up seeing the next big thing.
Drink prices?
Always fairly inexpensive. A lot of the time they have deals on drinks for low low prices and sometimes you can even get a bottle of wine for £6!
When should you rock up?
It depends on the night but most of the time it pays to get there early. Speaking from experience it's not fun queuing on the corner outside for an hour because you thought it would be a good idea to turn up at eleven! Although saying that, nights often run on until 5 in the morning so arriving past midnight could be a winner meaning missing the queue but still getting enough bang for your buck.
What to wear?
Anything you like! Although there is a lot of nu rave and vintage to be found here.
Best part?
The kooky, graffiti style decor and the atmosphere. It's a truly unique experience with a lot of fun to be had dancing on a picnic table (you'll see what I mean when you go!)
Worst part?
It's quite small so prepare to be squished. Also, most of the bartenders are girls meaning a severe lack of eye candy while waiting for your drink. However, their incredibly unique dress sense does make a useful resource for new fashion ideas.
