What is it?
This small gem is overlooked by the hordes streaming down Queen's Road to the sea.
Why is it hot?
Serving its own Dark Star real ales and guest beers, it's a proper drinker's pub with a warm, convivial charm.
Permanently available Dark Star pumps include favourites American Pale Ale, Hophead, Original and, most unusually, Espresso, which is brewed with freshly ground espresso beans, all about £2.80 a pint.
Very good selection of international bottled beers, too (£2.60-£3), and Westons and Thatchers draught ciders, (£2.70). Great selection of bourbons and malt whiskies (including Maker's Mark and Laphroaig).
No food, but there are some interesting bar snacks (sesame, lime and chilli peanuts, for instance).
