There's a funky new bar in town...
Why is it hot?
Bristol can be forgiven for being excited when Start the Bus arrived in the city. It was called Edwards in its previous life, and could have won first prize for the worst bar in town. However, you can leave those sore memories behind as it has been transformed into one of the coolest live music and DJ bars that the centre has to offer. At one end of the bar you can sink into a sofa, and at the other you can rip the dance floor to shreds in your stilettos. There is a lengthy bar too which stretches across much of the venue so you don't have to wait too long for your next tipple. In Start the Bus you can be safe from the gaggles of hen parties and packs of young men dressed identically (you can still have a giggle through the window though). It is tastefully decorated and the walls showcase art from artists around the city.
Regular nights?
They try and break the week up for you as much as they can. They host Special Wednesdays (on Wednesdays of course), offering live music and visuals. Weekends vary, but are guaranteed to be a hit.
What's the music like?
Tip top. You won't find a sniff of cheesy tunes within ears-reach at Start the Bus - you will only hear the funkiest mash up of hip-hop, funk, soul, electro and house.
What to wear?
There is a real mix of styles, but this place is pretty cool so be on-trend and not too dolled-up.
Entry fee?
It varies but is rarely over £5.
Drink prices?
Actually these can be pretty pokey with a ginger beer and double rum costing around £8, which is a bit pricey if you ask me. Stick to the beers and bottles of wine if you want to save a couple of quid.
What's the vibe?
There are lots of lovely young and super-trendy single men here for you to ogle.
