Why is it hot?
Housed in a former warehouse building in Devonshire Square near Liverpool Street, this fab new restaurant and bar from the Cinnamon Club (in Westminster) is the hot new place for City banking types.
Food and drink?
In the restaurant Chef Vivek Singh has created an exciting new menu full of his trademark, top-quality modern Indian food and the Indian theme continues in the Anise bar next door. Cosy booths, soft lighting and a massive video screen create a clubby atmosphere and the cocktails all have an Eastern twist. We started with their trademark Cinnamon Bellini (£7.00, delish) and worked our way through the menu which included a signature Passionfruit & Chilli Caipirinha (£8). Concerned about the chilli (it was served with one which I dared my mate to eat - he declined) the mixologist explained how he steeps vodka in chilli to make your lips tingle and tingle they did!
We were so excited about the cocktails (we dubbed them 'curries in a glass') that we forgot to eat but there's sharing platters of Indian snacks you can order in the bar including Laverstoke Park lamb seekh, Garlic and herb naan with dipsand Punjabi spiced crisp whitebait with masala mayonnaise.
Smokers may think they've lucked out when they see the massive outside terrace but you still have to go right outside the square to light up (there's a roof over the inside). The cocktail waitress was fab and was happy to help with what should be shaken and what should be stirred. Even the classic gin Martini was awesome. A bar experience that's not to be missed.
