Unsigned Mind at Fry's is the first in a series of live music events to raise money for MIND mental health charity at The Old Queen's Head in Islington, on Thursday 11th March 2010. Championed by Stephen Fry and having previously only been attended by members of Twitter, Unsigned Mind at Fry's is the first event of its kind to create a real-life physical version of a virtual bar.
Fry's is a virtual Twitter bar run by Edna Fry- a character who describes herself as 'Stephen Fry's poor downtrodden wife and mother to his six children". The bar' is always open, like a worldwide chat room that can be accessed by visiting their web page at www.twitterfall.com/#frys. During one of Edna's twitter parties, a group of musicians who had been invited to perform' by uploading links to their music came up with the idea to transform a premier gig venue into Fry's bar for one evening.
Since its launch, The Old Queen's Head has continued to occupy the cool mark on London's trend barometer by keeping its ear firmly to the underground music scene while also enticing big names to play its now legendary stage. The Old Queen's Head is proud to become the first pub to host a virtual bar and support new music and a worthwhile cause in this profoundly unique way.
Unsigned Mind' is being organised by Samantha Hayhurst (from the band Ashxyz), and fellow musician Russ Sargeant, both of whom performed' at that virtual twitter party. Stephen Fry - being a regular at Fry's virtual bar - has supported the event by giving news updates on his Twitter page.
Tickets are £10 and are available via www.frysgig.com
