Like you would experience in Rome, Adagio charges for its pizza by weight rather than by slice or by whole pizza. A standard serving of 100g starts from just £1.90, but there is no minimum (or maximum, for that matter) size you can order. Which means the choice is yours - one large slice or a selection of smaller pieces to make the most of the menu on display!
Adagio have a range of 40 pizzas but serve a selection from that throughout the day, each one as mouthwatering as the next! When we visited there were 9 different pizza's to choose from, but even whilst we were there, new varieties were being brought out. Once you've decided which pizza/pizzas you're going to have, the staff will cut the pizza with special pizza scissors and heat up ready for you to eat in or take away. There's also the option of taking away cold pizza to heat up at home in the oven, which we're assured gives the same amazing taste as in the pizzeria itself. If you're unsure of how much a 100g is of your pizza, the staff can show you before they cut, as each pizza varies depending on its topping.
Adagio prides itself on its bases, and rightly so as they are deliciously crispy on the outside, but light and soft on the inside. None of this deep pan, stuffed crust nonsense here, Adagio is authentically Roman! The pizza dough is proved' for 72 hours before being used, and its slow preparation lends itself to the name of the restaurant, Adagio meaning slow' in Italian.
Eating in, our pizzas were served on cute little wooden boards, adding a nice touch to the overall experience. We tried a little bit of everything, starting with regular varieties like ham and cheese, mushroom, and mozerella, mushroom and cherry tomato. Then we moved onto the more adventurous combinations! Courgette and tomato, artichoke and tuna mayonnaise, feta and aubergine, and butternut squash and parma ham. Our favourites were the mushroom: subtly seasoned with a variety of herbs, you could taste fresh mushrooms mixed with light creamy cheese; mozerella, mushroom and cherry tomato: not just any old mushrooms on this, more like wild mushrooms mixed with fresh mozerella and juicy sweet cherry tomatoes; and the artichoke and tuna: creamy tuna mayo topped with artichoke and dressed with rocket.
On all the pizzas you can really taste each ingredient and how fresh they all are. Everything is perfectly cooked and when lined up, you struck by the bright colours of each topping. Adagio has a great atmosphere, slick, modern presentation, friendly and helpful staff and is definitely worth a visit... or two.
If you grab one of their loyalty cards - make 9 visits and get 150g pizza free on your 10th! We're heading back soon! We just can't decide which pizza to try next. Maybe we'll have to get a selection!
