Tamarind is located on Queen Street, just off Curzon Street in Mayfair and five minutes walk from Green Park tube station. On arrival you will be greeted pleasently by the recepetion staff and shown down the distinctly unimpressive staircase into the basement venue, But prepare to be wowed!
Gold hues dominate the scene, accompanied by large flower displays, oversized lampshades and white tablecloths. The overall look conjures up images of Bollywood. The staff are fantastic, friendly and efficient. Our waiter helped us to decide from the menu what to try and also suggested wines to go with the dishes.
As well as the a la carte menu, there are various tasting menus and vegetarian set menus.
The a la carte menu kicks off with a choice of starters. we chose to try a selection on a recomendation from our waiter - Grilled scallops (£12), Shammi Kabab (£8.50) and Adraki Murgh (£7.50) all of which were divine.
For mains my partner settled on two fish dishes of Kadhai Khinga (£21) tiger prawns beautifully cooked with onions, tomatoes and peppers and Tali Macchi (£19) Pan fried fillet of sea bass with asparagus and mangon with mustard and coconut which he loved. I tried the Malai Tikka (18.75) Chicken marinated with ginger, chillie and creame cheese (basically a kebab!) but god the chicken simply dissolved in my mouth and has to be one of the best dishes I have had.
Overall, the incredible skill and technique employed to create the food means you really are paying for what you eat. I would recommend going here for a special occasion as the prices can be a shocker but the service and food really are impressive.
