Why is it hot?

This cool, relaxed bistro and fine dining restaurant in Farringdon serves delicious French food in a fun, friendly atmosphere (there's no such thing as a snobby waiter here). The huge open kitchen in the centre helps and splits the space in two - the Bistro serves classics including the most delicious French Onion soup I've ever had and offers good value lunch promotions (soup or salad and main course plus a glass of wine and coffee / tea for just £15). The contemporary restaurant on the other side is more intimate and seats just 28 guests with a seperate entrance. There's also a private dining room for small groups with a 'kitchen cam' so you can see your dinner being lovingly prepared. For real foodies there are regular masterclasses with chef patron Bjorn van der Horst (who has survived working with the likes of Ramsay). Class themes include 'Childhood Memories' and 'Does 'pretty' taste better?', last four hours, cost £150 and take place on Saturdays plus you can invite a guest to come and taste your wares at lunch afterwards. The perfect Saturday morning we say.

Vibe?

The married owners Bjorn and Justine wanted to open a welcoming restaurant with an atmosphere that felt like their own home - well if their home is anything like the Eastside Inn I'd never want to leave! Full in the week with a buzzy media crowd.

Drinks and food?

From the delicious charcuterie and freshly baked French bread to a classic Coq au Vin (the special on Wednesdays) the Bistro food is perfectly executed and extremely reasonable (starters from £6.95, mains from £12.95). In the main dining room everything is seasonal and you can choose between a classic 2 course menu (£45, with wine pairing £60) or the 7 course Discovery menu for £85. The extensive wine list is mainly French and handpicked from smaller producers.
