"Last week can be summed up on one word celeb-tastic. Ok, well its not really a word but still
.
I was drafted in to do some work with American fashion giant Calvin Klein who hosted a dinner at the new London Design Museum to coincide with the Frieze Art Fair. So as to ensure the ultimate in new-collection-showcase, each paparazzi-able face was offered a full look from the brands newest collections fresh off the catwalk that was tailored to fit them. Working with celebs is always a funny old business. On the whole, the old school faces, people like Yasmin Le Bon and Elle Macpherson were a dream; they know the drill, have seen / done it all before and are generally speaking perfectly respectful and charming. Then there are the Slash Girls. The Slash Girls are those that wont be defined by a single career choice. You know the ones, the actress-slash-model-slash-DJ-slash-blogger. How completely tiresome. Theyre normally the offspring of someone that was vaguely famous in the eighties (this is probably largely responsible for their attention seeking nature. Child left at home to be brought up by the nanny and all that) they may have upwards of 20 Twitter followers (probably the school friends who enjoyed slumber partying at the big house with the ponies, not because the said Slash Girl was much company to speak of). This sounds harsh I know, but thats largely why this column is kept anonymous, so as to avoid a letter bombing vaguely famous parent may know people that know people.
Thankfully, due to the A-list nature of Calvin Klein, the Slash Girls were fairly few and far between, they much prefer to focus on the silver screen star - the most notable and pleasant of who was Rosario Dawson. She was absolutely lovely and had time for everyone in the room, regardless of their job title. Another, rather dashingly handsome celeb was up and coming actor Tom Cullen. Incredibly charming
.and did I mention handsome? He was one of those people who made me really conscious of my facial expression do you ever get that? Maybe its just me. I managed to pull myself together long enough to escort celebs like; Frieda Pinto, Carine Roitfeld, Gillian Anderson and Bianca Jagger through the maze of the future home of the Design Museum.
With all these recognisable faces from the worlds of fashion and art youd have been forgiven (at least I hope I was
) for rubber necking each blacked out Merc that pulled up outside the enormous building on High Street Kensington. Brand new Canadian musical duo New Look played some electro beats as a palette cleanser after the heavy meal New Look are set to be huge; very cool looking couple whos tunes are produced by Jamie Smith made famous in the music world as producer of The XX.
The following day I was lucky enough to have a repeat visit from Tom Cullen. JUST.SO.HANDSOME. We had a lovely chat (was I frowning?) and as it was time to go, he gave me a smile, a wink and tweeted me a few hours later. What a week and what a way to round it off
