How was fashion week – have you recovered?
Yes, just about! I was thrilled with the response the collection received and having made trips to Paris, Milan and launching my jewellery collection, I’m just about ready for a little break now to digest it all. It’s a very exciting time
How does designing jewellery compare to designing clothing?
Well you don’t have as many size issues for a start. It’s similar in the way I approach the designs – always wanting to create something fun, directional, naturalistic - but of course you have to think about the different properties and materials you are dealing with and how they will work on the Giles woman
Where did you find the inspiration for the Libertine collection?
Nature always provides inspiration and I wanted to create pieces that inspire confidence; gold, brightly coloured enamel detailing and Swarovski elements embellishes work throughout the collection to provide a range that makes a statement and is fun and glamorous. There are Pop Girl pendants and a pop-up bangle which are fun, colourful and based on some of my illustrations, a beautiful ‘Tetris Ring’ that is stunning and sure to make a statement and a selection of insects and other characters that people can have some fun with!
Which is your fave piece in the collection?
I like all the pieces for different reasons. The character pendants are the manifestation of a well known 70s pop band and I rather enjoy those for the quirkiness they’ll bring to an outfit.
What girl did you have in mind when designing Libertine?
Libertine is for any woman, of any age, that likes to have fun with fashion. Libertine is meant to inspire confidence
Are you nervous about appearing on the QVC channel? Have you practiced any lines?
I am a little nervous actually but also very excited! It’s great as a designer to be able to speak about your designs to an audience directly. But no, it’s not something you can rehearse. I know my designs and collection, the rest is down to the callers and the presenter.
Have you got your telly outfit planned yet?
Not yet no, but I’ll most likely decide on the day!
