The madness of London Fashion Week is just beginning - and ahead of the show schedule starting our Fashion Director Oonagh Brennan caught up with designer Bora Aksu to talk about his influences, celebs and the British high street..
What can't you get through the summer without?
Converse sneakers, comfort is everything at the moment
What's your most coveted item of clothing this season?
Perfectly tailored trousers are the item of the season
Who would you most like to see wearing your designs?
I do like seeing my designs on dancers and artists. I also absolutely love Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchet and Christina Ricci
What do you think of the British high street?
I think British high street is very powerful and has a impact on the other countries high streets. There is a mixture of sophistication and street which works really well together
What inspires you?
Anything or anyone can inspire me - its more about the mood and the feeling of that certain time frame. I also do like taking personal references such as memories and places... Travelling is also great as an inspiration tool. I do travel a lot because of my work and it really enables me to see things through different windows
What is your favourite fashion era?
My favorite fashion era actually changes every season, but I do love the 1930's for its new found freedom and the fabrics reflection as well as 70s.I always think 70s has such romantic and naive feeling.Especially movies and the colours used in the movies always inspires me
What's new for you this season?
Dr Jekyll meets Mr Hyde; Manipulation of tailoring is the main theme. The beauty of classic timeless tailoring and it's details and techniques and the manipulation of these tailoring techniques and turning it into something new which became the concept of the collection. As its about contrasts, proper and improper, regular and irregular. I love autumn winter because I am into using contrasts of different weights of materials. In winter the choices are great which allows me to be more free
