"I'm not afraid to tell you, I dont wear colour it kind of scares me. This said, this time of the season is a tricky one. I love the longer days and embrace the sunshine but deep inside there's an unease that sets in what the hell am I going to wear this summer?? This totally rational (isn't it?) fear isn't made easier by the season's rather disconcerting two Bs... Block and Brights.
Many have tried - uninvited - to analyse this about me (got to love a random psychological assessment eh?). Do I have a deep rooted dark side? Am I a goth? Is it anonymity I seek? Listen up people... maybe I just wear black. There have been many times I've fallen for a colourful garment; it's just not worked out between us. Much like some men in my life, I've been romanced by the idea but it just hasnt been the right fit. I haven't ruled out bright colour, love, or ever liking olives, they have just not worked for me so far - Ill keep trying them once in a while though, just to see...
If I did wear colour, my credit card would be at the ready with my mind racing on how to budget for this unseen gem of a season. As a big denim fan, Im loving the Katharine Hamnett pastel pink skinnies and the new J Brand bold red, pink and yellow jeans. Dress wise, I wouldnt look further than the Paul by Paul Smith beautiful bright turquoise summer dress and high street giant Desiguals printed maxis, not forgetting the Breton stripe cotton dress at All Saints. ALDO would be my one stop shop for accessories, entering the store with a dream of carpeting my floor with their printed wedges. Go on girls, grab the colour while you can - it's too late for me, but save yourselves!
Leona Lewis is really flying the colour blocking flag this season, with almost every red carpet appearance more vibrant than the next. This year's Grammy awards saw her in an acid green bra-esque top and cerise high waisted skirt and she rocked a lemon yellow bra-top and royal blue skirt for the 'Black Women in Music' event. Yes, the bra tops have a lot to answer for but at least shes getting the colours right.
Eva Longoria, Nicola Roberts, Rhianna, SJP and Paloma Faith are big on clashing colours and prints - some more convincingly than others. Fashion isn't to be taken too literally. it should be adapted to your personal style. Frankly people like Paloma and Lady Gaga werent gifted with personal style, so they wear costumes not outfits please tell me, is ANYONE impressed?
As for me, who knows, maybe one day Ill be blissfully in love, wearing clashing fuchsia head to foot and living on an olive diet. Maybe...
