Diary of a Fashion Insider: Dressing the Balance

"Okay, okay, I know I go to a lot of events. Last week however, there was one party everyone was talking about, ALDO’s casino themed 'Get Lucky' campaign launch – hosted by supermodel Lily Donaldson. The event was wall to wall with celebs, shoes, free drinks and the ALDO Creative Director – who is easy on the eye to say the least. What more could a girl ask for from a night out?

Held at the grand One Marylebone venue, fashion's most glamorous set of faces partied to tunes spun out by new 'it' DJ - Sunday Girl, rubbed shoulders with the likes of Jade Parfitt, American singer Alexis Jordan and Jameela Jamil (wearing a beautiful Camilla and Marc strapless mini dress); on top of which were all invited to chose a pair of shoes from the new collection! Get Lucky? Yes we did. It really was one of those evenings that reminded us all how fortunate we are to tread the - sometimes unsteady yet always well dressed – world of fashion.

To embellish the glamour of the week came and evening with my Power Gay at our favourite eatery Randall and Aubin followed by a fair few espresso martinis in Soho. Due to his upcoming Croatian getaway, we were stopped in our tracks by the bright fuchsia Speedos screaming at us from a shop window. Deciding that it was paramount to educate Croatia's population as to the importance of colour blocking, he left the shop as proud owner of the tiny little things. Beach-blocking box ticked, we had a good soap-box esque life debrief, concluding that it may be time to delete the Yankee. I have to say after this week's shenanigans I may have to agree. Typical – and rather boringly retro – the American likes the chase. I never had him down for being a game player but it looks like I may have been wrong. Merely three hours of my radio silence since he sent me a text, I get another simply reading 'Really?' Purlease. He was instantaneously relegated to back-burner guy.

In light of this, I've decided I'm going to invest a little more energy in the DJ who I've nicknamed West – largely on account of his proximity to Portabello. Obviously blissfully unaware of the American's existence, he texts me every day with sweet, head-tilt provoking texts. Honestly, there have been a few more eggs in the Yankee basket up until now but it's time to readdress this balance. With a date penned in for this week I’m in 'throw-myself-in' mode. Watch this space!

I ended the week with a house packed to the rafters with all my favourite people to celebrate my grandmother's 90th birthday. A world away from rather shallower activities of the week, it dawned on me how important it is to reacquaint myself with normality, recognize the unfailingly firm support that help stabilize me on these sometimes rickety paths of fashion and fellas.

As with our beloved skyscraper heels and weakness for the odd glass of wine, perfect balance is the ultimate aim. It's ok to lose it sometimes, as long as you have your friends and family to help steady you – or at least a good cab driver to take you home. "
