Alright its not that festive but 'Monsters' by young British filmmaker Gareth Edwards is a seamless blending of romance, road movie and a monster flick (so perfect for you and him). Shot guerrilla-style in South America it's about a frustrated photojournalist Andrew Kaulder (Scoot McNairy) that must escort his bosss daughter, Sam (Whitney Able) across a quarantined infected zone filled with squid-like aliens. That explanation doesn't do it justice - but see this clip below to get a better idea. This gorgeous film is undoubtedly one of my favourite films of 2010. I can't say it more: Go. Watch. It.

Just because its the season to eat eat eat, Im recommending a bit of food porn in the form of The French Menu Cookbook, by the American food writer Richard Olney, for my book of the week . A beautifully written celebration of French food and wine, its jam-packed with inspirational seasonal menus. Originally published in 1970, its still an instant kitchen classic with recipes from a simple Provencal lunch to an informal autumn dinner, and even a gorgeous festive meal for two. Yum yum!

Alright heres my guiltiest pleasure of the season, but thats what crimbo is all about isnt it? Picture this: the fire is burning, there are presents under the tree, Nanny Pat is cooking, Arg's in a festive knitted jumper and Harry has a new 80's David Bowie hairdo. Can you guess? Its Christmas in Essex! The cast return for the show's festive special, The Only Way Is EsseXmas, being shown on Christmas Eve, ITV2 at 9pm. Ive got to be honest - Im actually now slightly more excited about Christmas eve than I am about Christmas day!
