This week, while out shopping on Regent Street, we discovered Senkai – a FANTASTIC new Japanese restaurant and its super cool cocktail lounge – where we tasted, enjoyed and became obsessed with (we had a second one just to celebrate!) our favourite cocktail of recent times: The Koshiku.
Made with a Japanese spirit called Jun Shochu (don't ask – we're not sure either!), it is infused with kaffir lime leaves then shaken with Russian Standard vodka, passion fruit, acacia honey and fresh ginger. The whole lot is then served in a cinnamon-rimmed coupé glass – which we can't believe we've never thought of doing before! One word. DE-LICIOUS! And the vibe here is pretty cool too in a Company meets SATC kinda way. We really can't recommend it enough if you're in the area.
AND, while you're here, make double triple quadruple sure you check out the restaurant too, which is just next to the lounge, for the most amazing selection of delicious Japanese food in town. We had the most beautiful sashimi platter and seabass tartare! Other dishes we enjoyed included the perfectly crunchy pepper squid, unusually tasty pork and Jerusalem artichoke dumplings and a gorgeous chicken and miso main.
The decor is serene and sophisticated yet unpretentious and young, with beautiful Japanese influences, wallpapers and orchids. And you have the choice of different settings and areas within the restaurant. If you're thinking more casual, you can grab a couple of stools at the trendy sushi bar. Or for special occasions, you can hire your own private room. But whatever it is you're looking for, if you enjoy Japanese restaurants, this place is cool, classy and we just love it!
