The Holly Golightly Winner

the holly golightly winner

A few weeks ago, Chambord ran a competition to find the perfect "Holly Golightly" cocktail for the launch of Breakfast At Tiffany's at London's Haymarket theatre. Well, now the show's up and running now, so Uncle Mikey thought he'd try to recreate the winning cocktail, which was created by Adam McGurk, mixologist at Sosho cocktail bar in London's Shoreditch, and is on sale at the Haymarket theatre.

MIKEY SAYS:
"Adam uses Early Grey tea syrup in his cocktail, which sounds a bit complicated for my amateur mixology skills… I compromised by infusing an Earl Grey teabag in some orange juice, water and sugar, before adding it to the cocktail. It seemed to do the trick though, as the tea really adds a refreshing flavour to the cocktail. We all loved it in the office!"
MIKEY GIVES THE HOLLY GOLIGHTLY: 10/10

LISA SAYS:
"This has to be one of my favourites. Fresh, fruity and very unusual, this is a great cocktail to get the party started! No wonder it won the competition... The Earl Grey tea adds a cool twist to the otherwise sweet flavour and it's so easy to drink I'm wondering if it is actually alcoholic!"
LISA GIVES THE HOLLY GOLIGHTLY: 9/10

HERE'S HOW TO RECREATE ADAM"S WINNING COCKTAIL:

Recipe
2 slices of orange
1 slice of pink grapefruit
2 dashes of Fee Brothers grapefruit bitter
15ml lemon juice
25ml Chambord
15ml Earl Grey tea syrup (you'll have to Google this! Or just use an Earl Grey tea bag infused in water, orange juice and sugar)
10ml Sweet Vermouth

Method
In a boston mixing glass, place 2 orange slices and one pink grapefruit slice along with 2 dashes of Fee Brothers grapefruit bitters, 15ml of fresh squeezed lemon juice and 15ml Earl Grey tea syrup.
Muddle all ingredients carefully in the glass to extract juices and oils from fruit and effectively create a base sauce.
Pour in 10ml Sweet Vermouth and 25ml Chambord.
Fill the boston glass to the brim with cubed ice.
Place boston tin over the glass and seal firmly.
Shake vigorously 15 or so times.
Using a Hawthorne strainer and fine strainer, double strain into a pre-chilled martini glass and serve.
