Last night in Frankfurt, the great and the good of the music world descended on the Festhalle for 2012's MTV EMAs. Company went along for the ride, courtesy of event sponsors Windows 8.
Firstly, let's discuss outfits: Rita Ora ditched her street style for one night only in favour of a Bey-worthy embellished jumpsuit as she descended to the stage from inside a giant birdcage (as you do) and stormed it with an epic version of RIP. Taylor Swift kept it girlie and simple in floaty white, while Alicia Keys rocked high waisted skinnies and tore the roof off with a live version of Girl On Fire. But the style star of the night for us was Gwen Stefani who took to the stage with No Doubt wearing thigh-high boots and trademark swagger. Love her.
But it was Taylor Swift who picked up the gong for Best Look, as well as Best Female and Best Live. Bieber stole Best Male while our very own 1D boys scooped Best New Act and Biggest Fans - cue: officially the loudest crowd screams of the night when they popped up on screen. Still ringing in our ears.
Gossip elsewhere was Heidi Klum almost having a wardrobe malfunction on stage thanks to a particularly low neckline. Quickly averted by a camera pan. And we all held our breath for about 6 seconds when Kim Kardashian fell off her heels as she walked on stage to present an award. Thankfully, she managed a last minute recovery. Respect. But for a moment, we all had a collective cringe, because we could imagine the embarrassment. I mean, IMAGINE. Well styled out Kim.
For us, the biggest performances of the night came from Fun (all together now: "toniiiiiiiiiight... We are yoooooung...") and live legends Muse and The Killers. Oh and we probably shouldn't admit to this but when Psy took over the stage with hundreds of dancers, the entire building went Gangnam crazy. Even us. I know, let's not talk about it.
