AnnaSophia Robb On....

annasophia_robb

As a young actress I'm glad I finished school. My experience of high school was a blast. I made awesome friends there. They are all still my best friends. I feel so fortunate to have had such a fun time. I had great teachers and I had so much fun at all our dances, and going to football games. We had a really great class- everyone was so kind- there wasn’t any cattiness.

Female actresses who inspire me...  I just worked with Allison Janney and Toni Collette on the summer film The Way, Way Back. They are just such amazing actresses and so natural. I was talking with Alison on set about how much I love her acting. I think in order to have fun on screen and seem that effortless, you have to be confident in yourself.  I learned that you need to have faith that you really get the role and trust your directors to be able to feel safe enough to try different things.

Living on my own in NYC was lonely.  I moved there to film The Carrie Diaries. When I was living on my own it was definitely lonely, it was the first time I lived away from home on my own. And that can be difficult for any young person- my friends who were going to university around that time, felt the same. You go from knowing the routine you have known your whole life and being around people you have known for ages, to meeting a whole new set of people and experiencing changes.

New York is dazzling. I like the dirty, busy, loudness of the city, it has such great energy. It has so much to offer, you can have a really special time there. However, New York is one of those places that you have to figure out how you want to handle it because it’s like a garden of Eden- temptations at every corner. So you have to navigate its waters and decide the path you want to take.

I like being my goofy self.  One of our producers on The Carrie Diaries told me they liked me for the role of Carrie because during my audition they asked me to dance like I was at the school prom. I started doing my chicken dance, I was just being my goofy self and I guess they liked that I could be myself, and comfortable in my skin, like Carrie.

Becoming Carrie Bradshaw is fun!  Carrie’s curly hair is such a huge part of the character. Having the curly hair wig helped me get into the Carrie vibe each time I got on set. It was fun for me, because I love curly hair I think it’s sexy…

I get to dress up in 80 fashion in The Carrie Diaries. Eric Daman is the costume designer and he is so talented. I am so impressed by how much work he and his team does and how many outfits they have to deal with- it’s been a lot of fun to try everything on. We are just getting started too, as we head into the second season- it’s only going to get better from here.
