I think I may have an overactive brain... I'll often produce a notepad on the bus & start to scribble bullet pointed ideas of all ridiculous sorts; happenings, potential meetings, pitches, songs to play on the radio, even motivational lists - sometimes when I look back at some of my scrawlings, I cringe. I also bite my nails, all of the above is perfect for radio, because I can yabber at the speed of light, and play a song before I get over excited and shout, or accidentally swear... Which would result in me losing my job.
However, now that Company have given me the opportunity to write a weekly column, I feel compelled to keep it short and sweet, as apparently as consumers we do not pay attention for long when there are too many words to read on a web page... So I'll embrace the future and give it my best shot! I hope you enjoy my column, and return on Mondays to check up on my general musings, rants and recommendations.
As I am currently scribbling onto a notepad on a beach on the East Coast of Ibiza, Spain, I thought to start us off I’d send you a virtual postcard...
Dear all,
I have been in Ibiza for three days and two sleeps... It's my first time on the Island, and I am joined by nine glorious friends. One of whom actually cuddles and kisses me, as he doubles up as a boyfriend.
So far, we have managed to incur a 'written warning' from our particularly pernickety housekeeper, for having a late night BBQ around our pool (with rum on tap). I would not consider the group to be the louty, Union Jack-covered, beer guzzling sorts, but it seems that 'deep life chats' until 5AM were the limit for our housekeeper, Santos, who lives just upstairs.
Santos hasn't tarnished our holiday joy and neither did losing our rental car in the 'crystal maze' situation that we ended up in last night in San Antonio, after forgetting which street we'd parked on! A holiday isn't a holiday without dramas after all.
Other hoilday revelations include... That one should never worry too much about wobbly bits prior to getting on the plane, because once you are there it literally DOESN'T MATTER. I have also come to realise that; A fear of sunbathing topless in front of platonic male friends is easily overcome; that you should dance like everyone is watching, rather than the opposite; and that the Mariah classic 'Fantasy' from 1995 is still as amazing. Oh, and that it should also be a global law to turn off Blackberrys and iPhones whilst you're away.
Most of all, the umbrella on top of the cocktail... I am reminded that laughing and talking with your friends is the most valuable and beautiful thing... Even when only discussing shoes, work, red wine and seafood.
