I’ve been listening to Radio 1 since I was a baby. My dad used to play the Annie Nightingale show! I screamed when I got this job. You have to think on your feet. I was at T in the Park with Ellie Goulding and Jared Leto and only had a pen and paper on me. So I wrote out the tweeters who’d asked for a shout out and got a photo of Ellie and Jared holding their twitter names. People cried!
Getting Katy Perry to tap dance and spray paint a pic of Bieber was surreal. We had an hour with her so set up a “U CTRL Katy” for listeners. We had to deny the ruder requests...
You need a thick skin. If we put a picture of certain musicians on our Facebook page, within 10 minutes there will be 600 comments – and not all of them complimentary. But then we do a Skype chat with One Direction and people practically weep with joy."
