When you get a whole load of women in one room, conversation always flows easily - but when we were asked by the amazing LadyGeek to attend a workshop with Microsoft to find out what girls really thought about gaming, we thought it was a good chance to investigate what girl's views on consoles really are.
Now, we all had happy memories about our Sega mega drives and Nintendo Game Boys, but it turned out that as we grew older, we had swapped gaming for other, more adult interests. On the flip side, most of our male friends and boyfriends are still obsessed with gaming - so why the gender split?
Clearly, gaming companies like Microsoft want to get the girls on side, but apart from a select few, the rest of us seemed more interested in reading, catching up on our Sky+ or surfing the net than gaming.
However, all that could change with the XBOX and XBOX Kinect, not to mention the Live subscription you can take out with them. Facebook, Twitter and Sky can all be accessed from the console, as well as film rentals and playing DVDs - which sounds like a winner to us! We hate to stereotype, but if you're not into shoot 'em ups like Halo or Call of Duty, then there are more 'girly' games available now too - we absolutely loved playing on Dance Central (which is even better than the Wii as you don't need a controller at all - you ARE the controller), as Ashley Tisdale demonstrates here! Burning calories while having fun with your mates? Yes please!
So it turns out that maybe a gaming company has been listening to the ladies - and we might even be fighting our boyf for that controller now...
